Types of Swimming Pool

There are many different shapes and sizes of swimming pools, as well as different types of swimming pools to choose from. If you are considering putting in a swimming pool or purchasing a professionally installed large indoor or outdoor swimming pool, you will need to first decide on what type of swimming pool will best suit you. This all depends on what you need or want the swimming pool for, what its primary function will be and what other roles it will play as part of your home. It is also important to note how much space you have in your garden or outbuilding to accommodate the swimming pool. The following are a few different examples of the types of swimming pool you can have and what they are best used for.

Play Pool

Typically a play pool is not much deeper than 5 feet. They are not really used for swimming but to just generally cool off in the hot summer months and to play games in. They make great additions to your home for the children to play in during the summer without the dangers of a deep end. You can play volley ball, mess around on floats and do a bit of swimming if the fancy takes you. As far as swimming pools go, these are the standard all purpose variety.

Diving Pool

If you are looking to be a bit more adventurous with your swimming pool and want to use it to dive you will need to ensure you install a specialist diving pool. The diving area must be at least 8.5 feet deep and be built to NSPI and ANSI standards for health and safety. These types of pools are not suitable for young children as they can be a real safety hazard and you will need to ensure you maintain the pool and diving board properly and regularly.

Freeform Pool

A freeform pool is a naturalistic style pool designed to imitate natural bodies of water. They may look like a lagoon and usually have rock features and plenty of exotic plants surrounding it. They are a very popular choice for people looking to relax in a luxury pool rather than doing laps or playing games in the water.

Geometric Pool

The Geometric Pool is a very traditional pool style and has symmetrical shapes, straight lines and consistent circles. These types of pools look more formal and are useful for people looking to get some real swimming laps done every morning if it is big enough, or just to create a balanced modern look to their swimming pool.

Lap Pool

If you are into swimming for fitness this is the perfect choice for you. These pools are usually very narrow but very long so you can swim long laps and get plenty of exercise out of it. They make a great addition to any home of a health and fitness lover. These lap pools are used commercially as well as for private home use and a personal fitness lap pool is becoming more and more popular.
